SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Holy Savior Academy Cheerleading Squad has kicked off a fundraiser to generate $5,500 for the purchase of much-needed equipment, such as new tumble mats, sound equipment, and more for the award-winning squad.
“The group of twelve girls range from 1st through 4th grades,” said parent Marybeth Parache, who is heading up efforts to raise funds. “They amazed all of the coaches and parents this year.”
Under the guidance of coaches Maralyn Thomas, Cindy Trunell and Karen Gaffney, the Holy Savior Academy Cheerleading Squad took 1st place in the Catholic Cheerleading Coaches Association of New Jersey (CCANJ) in the Bitty Division. The Cheerleaders also won 1st place in their Division at the 2018 Cheerfest, an annual multi-state competition held at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ.
“Each cheerleader worked so hard and dedicated countless hours to get their performance right,” added Parache.
Current tumble mats are worn and cracked, so the school has launched the fundraiser to help purchase new equipment and ensure the safety of the cheerleaders. New mats and sound equipment will help students as they reach new levels in their accomplishments, progress to Junior Varsity and continue to develop their skills as athletes.
“We were so proud of the ability of the squad to compete and stay focused during the long season,” added Parache. “There is a lot of talent on the squad. They are all anxious to start next season.”
Holy Savior Academy, the only regional Catholic elementary school in Central New Jersey, is accredited by the nationally-recognized AdvancED School System. The school serves students from pre-K through 8th grade. Many of the extra-curricular activities of the school are supported by fundraisers.
