SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Make room on the banners and prepare the walls, the Boys and Girls Winter Track Teams are Blue Division Champs. A week after dominating the small schools' competition at the Greater Middlesex Conference Relays, your Tigers defeated them on an individual level at the GMC Championships.
For the ladies, this is back to back division titles. Finishing first in the division for the the girls were Samantha Pullen in the 55 meter dash, Sofia Watson in the High Jump and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Sam, Sofia, Hailey Palmer and Lauren McMillan. Lynda Farinella and Ashley Wyber also made big contributions, pulling off the track trifecta of competing in the 1600, 800 and 3200 meter runs. Lynda and Ashley earned points in each event.
This is the second Blue Division Title in three years for the boys. Powered by five first place finishes in the division, your Tigers cruised to victory. Earning top points against the small schools were Ashwin deGroot in the 400 meter dash, Michael Lawrence in the 55 Meter Hurdles, Keith Lehman in the Pole Vault and 800 Meter Run and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Ashwin, Keith, Bobby Rivera and Jose Delgado.
Ashwin deGroot made his debut on the big board, Placing 4th against all competing schools with a time of 52.35 in his 400 meter dash. Sofia Watson also earned a GMC medal with a 6th place in the High Jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches. Great work and congratulations to the Boys' and Girls' Winter Track Programs!
