SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – 'United We Roar,' a community event sponsored by the South Plainfield School District, is planned for 8:15 p.m. on Friday, March 27. In an email and video announcement made March 23, Superintendent Dr. Noreen Lishak stated that the goal is to provide residents an opportunity to come out of their homes and come together in the fight against the coronavirus.

“I am asking that this Friday at 8:15 p.m., you step outside on to your front steps, step outside on to your front porch, step outside on to your front lawn and give the best roar you possibly can. We are going to show how strong we are and our tiger pride,” said Lishak, urging residents to also reach out to their friends and neighbors in town so that they can participate as well.

“Make a phone call, send an email, let them know at 8:15 we will all be stepping out in unity and that this virus is not keeping South Plainfield down,” she said.

Lishak’s video message also featured some roars from members of the South Plainfield community, including teachers, administrators, and Mayor Matt Anesh. “I want to thank you for everything you’ve done to get through this,” said Anesh. “With that extra energy you have, it is okay to let out a little bit of a roar.”

The superintendent would also like those who participate to send videos of their ‘United We Roar’ participation to; Roars will be included in a video compilation and can be viewed online at

“We really want to roar so loud that everybody knows South Plainfield is strong and going to be strong together,” Lishak added. “Thank you for being involved and thank you for being the strong community that you are.”

Additionally, Lishak announced that the school district is working to raise funds to help South Plainfield businesses and families through this trying time.

“We understand the importance of the Stay At Home movement, and we respect how important this is for flattening the curve of COVID-19. We also know, however, that staying home has great ramifications for local businesses and families,” Lishak stated in a letter emailed on Monday afternoon.

Those interested in supporting the fundraising effort can do so by purchasing a ‘United We Roar’ T-shirt from the district’s online store (; all profits from the sale will be used to support local South Plainfield businesses through the purchase of gift cards which will be distributed to community families in need.

“As always, thank you for your support,” said Lishak. “We are tiger strong.”
