Students from the South Plainfield Middle School Music Department and Cancer Awareness club traveled to the Menlo Park Veterans Memorial Home in Edison. The visit on December 16 took a group of 35 students to help bring cheer during the holiday time.
The chamber orchestra performed first and played 15 minutes of holiday songs including favorites such as Silent Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, and We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Thirteen students came to school extra early to prepare the concert for the veterans. After that a small band of 26 eighth grade students performed twelve holiday songs that included classics such as; Jingle Bells, Chanukah O’ Chanukah, and O’ Faithful Pine.
In addition, the members of the Cancer Awareness Club gave thank you letters to the Veterans in appreciation of their service to our country. The educators of the South Plainfield Middle School find it important to instill the value of the sacrifices of the veterans of the United States of America. The school presents incredible programs during Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and 9/11 that honors the sacrifices and the bravery of our soldiers, police, and firefighters. Also attending the trip was Mr. Blondo (History Teacher), Mrs. Hughes (Cancer Awareness Advisor), Mr. Veiss (Band Director), Mrs. Livecchi (Orchestra Director), Mrs. Haughwout (Choral Director), and Mr. Whalen (Principal).
