SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield School District on Tuesday announced some optional activities designed to keep students busy and involved beyond the core curriculum during this online learning period. 

A ‘United We Roar’ community event ( is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 27 at 8:15 p.m.; residents of all ages are encouraged to take part and send their videos to

District buildings are working to plan virtual family game nights, the South Plainfield Symphony will meet online on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., and first South Plainfield Art Show activity has also been posted. Students in all grades are encouraged to upload videos of their musical performances as well as photos of their completed artwork to the appropriate school for display in virtual galleries on the district’s website.

Additionally, Work Out Wednesdays will also take place and videos and photos of students participating in PE classes from home should be sent to the respective PE teachers. Numerous clubs and activities at Grant School, South Plainfield Middle School, and South Plainfield High School have also resumed through an online platform with ‘meetings’ taking place virtually; a complete list and details on days/times is available at

An ‘Online Storytime with a Tiger’ virtual learning activity coordinated by Kennedy Principal Kevin Hajduk is also under way. Members of the community – including students – are encouraged to record themselves reading a story and submit it for inclusion in the district’s online library. Information on how to upload the video and the detailed information needed to ensure it is organized correctly in the online library is available at

The district, said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Noreen Lishak in her March 22 video message, is working on other events and activities as well as seeking ideas for class-wide or school-wide activities. “You have all been wonderful in sharing your ideas with us,” she said. “If you have ideas for things the students can get involved in, please email them to me.”

Residents can email suggestions and ideas, along with requests for information, to Lishak at “If there is something that you are looking for, something you or someone in the community might need or personally need some help with, I am asking that you please reach out to the district. We will do our best to try to get as much information as we can to you,” said Lishak.
