SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - COVID-19  -With an abundance of caution, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Plainfield Police Department will be limiting our officer’s interaction with the general public until further notice. The purpose of this is to ensure the health and safety of our community as public safety is our number one priority. Aside from these measures, we will operate as normal and continue to provide a 24/7 police services that will include patrols and police response. The South Plainfield Police Department is taking the following measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic:

Filing of police reports:

In the event of an emergency you should continue to call 911. Police will continue to respond immediately to all emergencies and motor vehicle accidents. All non-emergency police reports will be taken by telephone. Anyone who wishes to file a non-emergency police report should call 908-755-0700. A police dispatcher will take your information and you will either be transferred to a police officer or a police officer will return your phone call within 15 minutes to handle the report. If the police officer deems a police response is warranted, an officer will be dispatched to your location. As a last resort, or if calling via phone is not practical, you may enter borough hall and pick up the police phone at the dispatch window to make a report. Additional protective measures may be required for those who must enter the confines of the police department.

Requests for completed police reports will be handled as follows:

Please call our records department at 908-226-7670 to speak to our records clerk (Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm). Be sure to include as much information as possible in your request. For any other requests such as OPRA requests, handicap permits, gun permits, and non-mandatory fingerprint requests, also contact our records department via phone.

Request for vehicle releases:

Please call 908-755-0700 to speak to an officer regarding vehicle releases.

Municipal Court for March 18 and March 25 has been cancelled.

We realize these temporary changes are unprecedented for you as well as for us. It is important we take these measures to protect the residents of South Plainfield and our first responders who are on the front lines.
