SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Police is continuing to investigate a crash that occured earlier today that caused a tractor trailer to overturn and take out a telephone pole and its guide wire. The accident resulted in a chemical spill that left Clinton Avenue closed throughout the day.
According to police, on Tuesday, July 16 at 7:11 a.m., Mary Hearns, 67, of Plainfield N.J., was driving a tractor trailer north bound on Clinton Avenue in South Plainfield. As the tractor trailer passed Tompkins Avenue and attempted to negotiate the curve, the weight of the load shifted causing the tractor trailer to overturn and take out a guide wire pole. Emergency crews including Middlesex County Haz Mat were on the scene of the accident all day.
Mary Hearns was transported to JFK Hospital in Edison to be treated for minor injuries. According to the South Plainfield Police department, this is preliminary information and the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
