SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Holy Savior Academy (HSA) in South Plainfield is partnering with Get Movin' Inc. to host a virtual exercise challenge fundraiser this month.
The ‘Storm Rise Up and Run’ initiative, which kicks off June 13, is designed to get the school community – to ‘rise up’ during the pandemic through daily exercise and activities as well as provide students with the opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle and stay connected during current healthcare crisis.
“As the school year comes to a close, we wanted to find a way to come together as a school community to end this year on a high note. This event will kick off our summer with an active challenge for our students,” states the release on the school’s website.
“Along the lines [of] our annual ‘5K Fun Run’, we have decided to host a virtual fun run challenge called, ‘Storm Rise Up & Run.’ Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we were not able to host our annual Tricky Tray, which supports our school community. Through Storm Rise Up and Run, we have found a way to stay connected, healthy and support our school,” the website goes on to state.
“We wanted to run an event to help the school; a lot of spring events we had planned for the remainder of the year were canceled due to COVID,” added Jocelyn Casey, an HSA parent and one of the event’s organizers. “This is a fun, virtual event that the students – and the community – can take part in on their own.”
Through the ‘Get Movin’ Inc. website, participants will be able to log the time they spend bike riding, dancing, doing yoga, running walking, karate, swimming and more; families can do these activities on their own and input their miles with every one minute of exercise equivalent to one mile. Participants are encouraged to ask friends and family members to sponsor them and help the school reach its goal to make it across the country to California.
To date, the school has raised $5,570 with donations being accepted through July 6. Currently, sixth grade is in the lead, followed by fifth grade and second grade, respectively.
“The goal is raise as much as possible with the money going toward operations, athletics, extracurricular, and other programs,” said Casey.
HSA students can register for the ‘Rise Up and Run’ challenge from now through June 12 with donations currently being accepted. The challenge is set to begin June 13 and run through June 27. HSA students will be able to log their miles online through their personal ‘Get Movin’ website, which will be established once registration is complete.
