SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Close to 600 people gathered in Plainfield back on Sept. 27 as De’Andre Salter, lead pastor of Impact Church, was dually consecrated as a bishop.
Salter’s bishopric in both the Joint College of African-American Pentecostal Bishops and the Macedonia International Bible Fellowship makes him the youngest person of any reformation in New Jersey to be consecrated as a bishop.
According to Salter, there is something ‘symbolic’ about being the youngest bishop in the state. “Symbolically speaking, my bishopric is a signal that Jesus wants something special to happen in the hearts of a younger generation,” he said.
The office of bishop is bestowed upon one in acknowledgement of their Kingdom call to equip pastors and churches for greater local ministry. One must be confirmed and affirmed by three Bishops; at Salter’s ceremony, Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer, presiding bishop of Macedonia International Fellowship, served as the chief consecrator with Bishop Neil C. Ellis, presiding bishop of Global United Fellowship in Nassau, Bahamas, and Bishop George C. Searight, founder and senior pastor of Abundant Life Family Worship Church in New Brunswick, serving as co-consecrators.
“I really prayerfully considered the weight of the office because it requires great wisdom and sacrifice,” Salter told TAPinto South Plainfield. “My goal is to help pastors in the Macedonia International Bible Fellowship and beyond to position their churches for growth by improving their operational efficiencies and ministry delivery systems.”
Salter added, “While I remain a pastor here, locally, my work is now global and ecumenical.”
