SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ --- This past spring, Melanie Mott and Pete Smith were selected as candidates for Borough Council. With Labor Day just around the corner, their campaign will be in full swing and both Melanie and Pete are excited to go door to door.
Mayor Matt Anesh and the rest of his team are also excited to help both candidates campaign for the election. Anesh points out that both Mott & Smith have what it takes to help make a difference for South Plainfield families.
"These are two top-notch candidates," said Anesh. "They bring a great amount of talent and experience with them, and they will work hard for our residents. They are a great choice for South Plainfield."
Melanie Mott, a resident since 2005, is seeking her first term in November. Melanie and her husband Chris have three children, Taylor, Kylie, and Sean. She is dedicated to ensuring that South Plainfield’s brightest days are ahead.
“As the mother of three children, I understand how families need to make tough financial decisions every day to get by and plan for the future,” added Mott, who has volunteered for PTSO’s, sports organizations, and fundraising events. “I am proud to be running to be part of a team in local government that lives by the same fundamental financial practices that our residents do and I will be dedicated in making the most of every dollar that our taxpayers invest in our borough.”
In addition to her service as a school volunteer, Mott has volunteered for various non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Moms Helping Moms Foundation, We are Team Jersey, and is a full-time Realtor.
Pete Smith, an Army National Guard veteran and resident since 1999, is seeking his first term in November. Pete and his wife Sandi have six children, Matt, Ryan, Derek, Tiffany, Marissa, and Caitlyn. He is always looking to give back to his community and to make sure that South Plainfield always comes first.
“South Plainfield is a hidden gem in New Jersey and I want to make sure our best days are always ahead of us,” added Smith.
In addition to serving in the Army, Pete has served on the Planning Board since 2006, is a member of the South Plainfield Elks Lodge 2298, served as President of the New Jersey State Elks Association and was the president of the Sacred Heart Athletic Association. He devotes himself to helping raise money for children by doing polar plunges and running marathons.
Both candidates have thought long and hard about committing themselves to serve South Plainfield. “Now that my kids are getting older and my career is stabilized, the time is right for me to enter into a bigger arena of public service”, said Melanie Mott.
“In addition to my long history of service in South Plainfield through the Elks Lodge, I have worked with my town as member of the planning board for many years. Volunteering has been so rewarding in my life and those experiences are the reason I am pursuing a long time goal of serving on Borough Council” , said Pete Smith.
In the coming weeks, both candidates look forward to laying out their plan for South Plainfield, getting to know our residents, and embark on their journey to be part of the Mayor’s team.
