NEWTON, NJ – As of 8:15 p.m. the Town of Newton said the repair area was being back filled. Additionally, all valves were slowly being opened, increasing the pressure and water lines were being bled by running fire hydrants. Full pressure could be anticipated around 10:15 p.m. Officials remind residents that the boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice.
AT 6:25 p.m. the Town of Newton reported the work crews had replaced 18 feet of pipe. They were in the process of tightening the last of the bolts on the new pipe. They will then begin the process of turning the valves on flushing the hydrants to ease the water back into the system.
As of 5 p.m. the Town of Newton has issues a boil water advisory. As water begins to be restored please be sure to boil your water before using it. They will notify residents when the advisory is lifted.
The Town of Newton reports Water and DPW crews have located the break and are still hard at work on the repair. At this time they cannot give a time that the water service will be restored.
Drinking water is now also available at #2 Firehouse on Woodside Avenue.
Drinking water is now available at the Mill Street Fire House #1 in Newton, the Town of Newton reports. Andover Township residents impacted by the water main break should be starting to see some water return as of 10:30 a.m.
The Town on Newton and parts of Andover are without water this morning due to a “severe water main break” according to township officials. Repair crews are assembling to fix the water main on Sparta Avenue.
Water Buffalos, portable tanks used to deliver drinking water, are being requested according to an announcement released by the town.
Officials request people use caution when traveling in the area. Updates will be made throughout the day.
