SPARTA, NJ – A special tree is growing in through the winter at Helen Morgan School. The Kindness Tree was ‘planted’ in October as part of an initiative to spread kindness.
Helen Morgan faculty member Karen Bath planted the seed that has sprouted more than 80 leaves. Each leaf represents a good deed. Students are recognized for acts of kindness such as helping a fellow student, making a donation to the Fill the Bus fundraiser, collecting donations for a church and even cleaning the school grounds, according to Bath.
The Helen Morgan students were visited by a senior from High Point before the winter break to talk about her fundraiser to help provide jeans to homeless people in Sussex County.
Bath shares quotes to remind students to spread kindness including “Kindness is free,” and “Treat people the way you want to be treated.”
“My initiative in creating the Kindness Tree is simply to promote kindness,” Bath said. “A kind word or a smile can make a huge difference in someone’s day.”
