SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School softball team had an up and down week. The won two and lost two in a busy week.
On Thursday, the Spartans beat the Vikings 2-0 at home. Sparta has earned a number seven spot in the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference with a record of 10-6. Vernon came out as the fifth seed with a record of 14-1.
On Wednesday Sparta clobbered Morris Hills on the road 13-2. They started the wild ride with 11 runs in the first inning. Short stop Isabella DeFilippis batted .500, with three walks, two stolen bases and crossed the plate three times. Jessica Esso went 4-for-4 with two runs and six RBIs.
Erin Scott put two on the board going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Olivia Bouma-Hannam made the most of her time at the plate with a walk, scoring two RBIs. She also scored.
Kate Esso went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and one added to the final score.Tatiana Esteva-Ingram went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Anne Monroe went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run. Paige Smith threw all five innings in the shortened game. She gave up one walk and seven hits, earning six strike outs.
On Monday they lost a close one to Pope John ending their Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament run in the semi-final round.
Their record now stands at 12-6 going into their game against Jefferson on Monday.
