NEWTON, NJ—Over 300 people filled Spring Street on Monday night to indulge in food and drink creations from local restaurants.
The event, which ran from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., included 21 different restaurants who shared some of their local dishes and drinks with the event goers.
The restaurants who participated included:

- Bella Italia Ristorante
- Between The Bread Café & Caterer
- Buck Hill Brewery & Restaurant
- Chatterbox Drive In
- Cliff’s Homemade Cream
- Happy Wok
- Hayek’s Market
- Krave Café & Caterer
- Krogh’s Restaurant & Brew Pub
- Mi Rancho Mexican Grill
- O’Reilly’s Pub & Grill
- Sol Acteka Mexican Grill
- Spring Street Pub & Grill
- Texas Smoke BBQ
- Thai Nam Phet II
- The Barrel House
- Tuscany Bistro
- UMC at Bristol Glen
- Windy Brow Farms
A wide variety of dishes such as pumpkin soup from Between the Bread, to BBQ at Texas Smoke BBQ, all the way to Apple Cider Donuts from Windy Brow were served throughout the night.
“Each year the street comes alive for a festive evening to kick off the fall season,” said the organizers of the event at the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce.
This is the first year that the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce actively promoted the event early, President Mel Dennison. “We put signs up at least a month and a half in advance, along with posting a video and different posts about the event on Facebook," which got a lot of attention Dennison said.
There were four contests that were judged by the event goers throughout the evening. The winners are:
- Best All American - Texas Smoke BBQ
- People's Choice - Between the Bread
- Most Creative - Bristol Glen
- Chamber Choice - Bristol Glen
“We thank all the restaurants for their participation and the wonderful variety of food they provided,” Executive Director of the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce Nancy Woods said.
Some notable attendees included teachers from the Newton School District, Deputy Mayor Kevin Elvidge, Councilwoman Sandra Diglio, Councilman Dan Flynn.
Flynn commented during the Town Council Meeting on Wednesday night that this year’s Taste of Newton was “by far the most successful on in at least the past three years that the event has been held in town.” Flynn also mentioned that he “really enjoyed the Pumpkin Soup made by Between the Bread.”
Dennison said the reason why this year’s event was so successful compared to years’ past was because of the way they advertised this year. “We really took advantage and took a different approach using Social Media as a marketing tool this year,” he told Council Members at the meeting on Wednesday.
Proceeds from this event help to fund the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship programs. The organization offers two Culinary Scholarships for deserving students who wish to further their education in the food industry.
