Annual Trout Derby

Rain or shine the Sparta Recreation Department is sponsoring the annual Trout Derby at the pond at Station Park.

Bait and some poles will be provided.  There will be prize numbers drawn every hour.

Fun begins at 9 a.m. and runs to 1 p.m. for anglers ages five to 14.

No pets, no waders and no triple hooks.

Sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police.

Donations to the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry are being collected as admission.

SPARTA, NJ – A man speeding on Route 15 faces drug charges despite having a medical marijuana card.  Muhammad Khan, 26, of Valley Stream, New York was stopped by Police Officer Erick Finley driving his red Lexus SUV 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, police report.

Sparta Police: Suspended Speeding Driver Stopped, Arrested on Warrants

SPARTA,  NJ – A Paterson man was stopped for speeding ended up getting picked up on outstanding warrants.  On February 10 around 11:20 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Snyder stopped Jonathan Rodriguez, 32 for going 80 mph in a 55 mph, according to police.

One Injured in Two-Family House Fire in Newton

NEWTON, NJ—One man was injured, while three others escaped unharmed when a two-family two story apartment house caught fire on Saturday.  On January 27 at around 6:26 a.m. Newton Police received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby reporting a house on fire.
