SPARTA, NJ – For the second consecutive month the Sparta Board of Education is saying goodbye to a top administrator. Business Administrator and Board Secretary Barbara Decker resigned her position, effective December 31, 2016.
Decker is leaving Sparta to become the Business Administrator, Board Secretary at Fredon Township, having been approved at their December 12 meeting. Fredon recently approved a new Interim Chief School Administrator as well. On December 5, Gayle Carrick was approved for a six-month term. Fredon is a pre-kindergarten through sixth grade district.
Decker first served in Sparta as an assistant business administrator, leaving to take the Business Administrator position in the Pequannock Township School District. She returned to Sparta when Linda Alvarez retired 18 months ago.
Board vice-president Kelly McEvoy, conducting the meeting in president Karen Scott’s absence, thanked Decker for her service to the district.
“Once again I have to say goodbye to someone I respect tremendously and love deeply as a person,” Assistant Superintendent Daniel Johnson said. “I wish you the best of luck.”
In closing the meeting Decker said, “It has been my pleasure to serve as your Board Secretary. Thank you for the opportunity.”
The board approved Anthony Mistretta to serve as interim School Business Administrator, Board Secretary, effective January 1 through June 30, 2017.
