SPARTA, NJ – A record crowd of children came to hunt Easter eggs on Saturday according to Sparta UNICO. Sparta UNICO held their annual Easter egg hunt on the fields in front of the stage and behind Mohawk Avenue School. Children waited, trying to be patient, behind the yellow tape for the signal to go.
Within minutes the fields were scoured clean of hundreds of brightly colored, candy filled eggs. Some lucky children found tickets in their eggs. UNICO had more than an dozen prize baskets with candy, toys, even a few basketballs. Some won tickets to a Skylands Stadium MINERS baseball game.
Three youngsters won bicycles donated by Dawn Corbo of Weichert Realtors as she does each year. Gia Phalon, Julia Wehmeyer and Tessa Goldman each found an egg containing red ticket for the grand prizes.
Shana Doyle was the winner of the Easter Bonnet contest. She won a bouquet of flowers provided by Cathy Chute’s Lake Mohawk Flower Company.
There was face painting and balloon animals, along with the Easter Bunny for the children. In addition, vendors offered their products:
- Prarthana Shulka had a table of handbags and scarves,
- Samantha Cifelli - Spiritual Life and Nutrition Coaching and
- Laura D’Uva - Your Inspiration at Home
UNICO President Ken Carafello said, “This was our 19th annual Easter Egg Hunt. It is one the events all of us at Sparta UNICO enjoy the most. There is nothing better than watching these kids swarm the field to collect the eggs. It amazes me every year to see energy these kids have and their happy faces. It was even more exciting for us this year to have this event with our newly dedicated Christopher Columbus Monument in the back drop. It is just a great experience for us giving back to our community while living up to our motto of ‘Service Above Self.’”
