SPARTA, NJ – It was another big win for Sparta High School boys’ lacrosse as they beat Pope John on Thursday 17-5.  The match up, held on the Lion’s home turf was close for the first two quarters but the Spartans took control of the game in the third quarter with eight unanswered goals.

Owen Mead and Devon McIntyre each had five goals. 

“Devon had a breakout game,” said Coach Tyler Meth.  McIntyre scored three goals within two minutes.

Mead had two assists as well.  Stelios Kroudis found the net four times.  Alex Miliken, Russell Eberding and Liam Armstrong contributed with a goal apiece. Jesse West had five assists.  Jack Bushey and Brendan Puszcz each had an assist.    

Eberding had 18 of 22 face-offs and 16 ground balls. 

“The defense played a strong game lead by Al Falco.  He played a shutdown defense on Pope John’s leading scorer,” said Meth.

Sparta boys are 5-0 for the season so far.  They will travel to Metuchen on Saturday to play St Joseph's High School at 11 a.m.
