Boy Scouts of America Honor Outstanding Women at the 23rd Annual Sussex County Tribute to Women Awards Luncheon

The Boy Scouts of America, Patriots’ Path Council will be honoring local women at the Sussex County Tribute to Women Awards Luncheon.  Jackie Espinoza, Peggy Laddey, T Love, Deborah Reidmiller, and Lidia Zdunek will be recognized on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00am at The Lake Mohawk Golf Club in Sparta for serving as exemplary role models for the youth of our area.  These recipients were chosen for their outstanding services as evidenced by the interest and leadership they have demonstrated within the community of Sussex County.  They are citizens who live the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. The luncheon co-chairs for the event are Laura DeLea and Cathy Kut who are past honorees. The 2017 luncheon committee includes past recipients of the award as well: Helen Le Frois, Tammie Horsfield, Darlene Kishpaugh, Sylvia Petillo, Sara Megletti, Beth Malkin, Karen Rozek, Laura Tirpack, and Barbara Wortmann.

This year’s five honorees prove to be outstanding role models to our youth in Sussex County. Jackie Espinoza is an Area Manager at Jersey Central Power & Light serving most of Sussex County, part of Warren County and temporarily covering a portion of Hunterdon and Somerset County.  As an Area Manger she is the point of contact for the township officials, Police Chiefs and the Office of Emergency Management.  Jackie is currently the Chairwoman for the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, serves on the Board for the Sussex County Economic Development Partnership, on the Sussex County Day Committee, Chair of the Energy Conservation Committee for the Sussex Chamber, Sparta STEP Steering Committee, the 2020 Vision Committee at the Sussex County Community College and the ad hoc committee to bring back the Sussex County League of Municipalities. 

Peggy Laddey is a Rutgers Certified Master Gardener in Sussex County. Upon completion of this program, she went on to become part of the startup team for the Sparta Community Gardens where Sparta residents may rent space to grow vegetables and flowers in a fenced-in, organic environment. She continues her work there as a member of the management board.  In 2012 this group was awarded the Patriot Award from the Sparta Township Council for their efforts and contributions to activities that have benefited the community. She is a volunteer at the Annual German Christmas Market in Lake Mohawk as well as a volunteer for both the Sparta Historical Society and a member of the Lake Mohawk Historic Committee.

T Love, an integrated healthcare practitioner with a private practice in Newton, provides various holistic therapies, along with positive psychology practices, to clients and patients of all ages. She is the host of award winning Energy Awareness, a weekly spirituality based radio show receiving 2nd place honors for best show in conscious living radio, globally. T has been a volunteer with Pass It Along, Reverend Brown School and a neighborhood Girl Scout Troop. Shortly after establishing her private practice she joined the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce. T is currently the Secretary for the Chamber of Commerce and Chairs their Wellness, Entertainment and Sussex County Idol Committees. She serves on both the German Christmas Market General and Hut Committees and volunteers for pediatric hospice. She has established the Sojihuggles Childrens Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing the basic necessities of life to underprivileged children.

Deborah Reidmiller is an Emergency Medical Technician, and through this, has rendered aid to the people of Sussex County for the past 35 years.   She began her community service on her  college squad (Glassboro State) and upon her return home from freshman year,  Deb joined the  Sparta Ambulance  Squad, and in 1987 she joined Lakeland Emergency Squad. She is a Special Education  teacher and has volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for 12 years, a Boy Scout leader for 11 years, Sussex District volunteer for 4 years  and most currently as the Patriots' Path Council Special Needs Scouting Committee Chair.  

Lidia Zdunek is the Assistant Vice President, Branch Relationship at First Hope Bank. She is an Active Rotarian with the Jefferson Rotary Club and was named “Young Rotarian of the Year” for 2015- 2016.  She is also the recipient of the 2016 New Leaders in Banking Award and recently became Board Member for Sussex County Chamber of Commerce. She is very involved with the community and has participated in a number of events to not only represent the bank, but to support local businesses of Sussex County. 

Through the Sussex County Tribute to Women Awards Luncheon, funds will be raised to support the award-winning child abuse prevention programs offered to the community at large by the Boy Scouts of America. The Patriots’ Path Council ranks high among all the Boy Scout councils in the nation in their fight against child abuse. SPARTA, NJ – Two men from Brooklyn, New York stopped for speeding are facing drug charges.  On June 16 around 11 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd pulled over a grey Toyota Rav4 driven by David Mai, 20 going 95 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, police said.

SPARTA, NJ — A Sparta resident was picked up on an active warrant after getting stopped for speeding on Route 181. On June 16 around 1:35 a.m. Cpl. Marc Rubino stopped John Clark, 51 in his black Ford pickup driving 60 in a 45 MPH zone, police report.

SPARTA, NJ — A Newark man was picked up when the car in which he was riding was stopped for speeding. On June 8 around 11:50 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd pulled over Tashiana Martin, 27, of West Orange for speeding, police report.

Update: Police Break Up Fight Involving 40-50 People at Bridgewater Commons Mall

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — No injuries have been reported in an incident that shut down Bridgewater Commons Mall Thursday evening after a fight involving a crowd of 40-50 people.

Police are still investigating unconfirmed reports of shots being fired, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.
