SPARTA, NJ – October was a busy month at Alpine Elementary School for the pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grade children of Sparta. They celebrated the Week of Respect, Violence Prevention Week and Red Ribbon Week. The students participated in many activities for each of these initiatives.
Beginning with a school-wide assembly on Respect, the teachers and students took part in a Respect or Not game show.
The guidance counselor, Heather Yanoff prepared a Week of Respect scavenger hunt for all of the classes. As part of the scavenger hunt students had to sign a bulletin board to promise to be respectful. They then had to write something respectful with chalk on the sidewalk of the school’s main entrance. Finally, they earned a respect certificate.
The month ended with a Red Ribbon Week celebration, with special dress-up theme for each day. National Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, drug and violence prevention awareness initiative.
