Madison Day, of Brick, N.J. scored an 82 which tied for the third-highest score in the discipline for a Baylor University equestrian team fences rider in 2017. That score helped No. 9 Baylor equestrian (2-3, 1-1 Big 12) earned a closely-fought road win over conference foe, No. 7 TCU (2-3, 0-1) on Nov. 3 at Turning Point Ranch.

Drawing 10-10 on points, the meet came down to raw scores, with the Bears taking a 1413-1367 edge to secure the first Big 12 win at Baylor for first year head coach Casie Maxwell.

The meet began with fences, where Day scored BU’s first point in the event. Brittney Mirkov of Sparta, N.J. contributed a point, bringing the score to 3-2 advantage for TCU.

Closing the meet with flat, the Bears battled, but fell short, giving a 3-2 edge to the Frogs. Mirkov contributed another point for BU, bringing the overall competition score totals to a draw at 10-10.

“I felt the team had great energy today. At away meets it can be difficult to adapt to different horses, but I was able to do that today. Overall, I am happy with how today went and glad that we could end the fall season on a confident note,” said Mirkov, a senior.

The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team dropped No. 3 Auburn, 9-9 (1520-1335.50), in a tiebreaker on Nov. 3 at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.

"This was a big win for us. It came down to the wire like it has a number of times between us and Auburn, so I expected nothing less," head coach Tana McKay said. "They were great competitors. We made a couple of mistakes, but overall as a whole, the team pulled each other up like they are supposed to. It worked out in our favor."

The Aggies (6-1, 2-1 SEC) topped the Tigers (2-1, 0-1 SEC), 3-2, in the day's first event, Equitation over Fences. Alex Desiderio of Chester, N.J., came out with a 77-72 win.

No. 1 Georgia defeated South Carolina 14-6 meet to at the UGA Equestrian Complex.

Carolina started the day with a 3-2 victory in Equitation Over Fences with Lauren Fabiano of Malvern, Pa. earning a point for the team with a 78-75 victory.

In other news, Georgia’s Emma Mandarino, of Bedminster, N.J., earned Southeastern Conference Rider of the Month honors for October. Mandarino won the award for her rides in Equitation Over Fences, marking the first monthly honor of her career.

Mandarino was 3-0 on the season in Equitation Over Fences after adding two wins in October. The junior captain defeated her conference opponent from then-No. 1 Texas A&M by 13 points to earn her first-career Most Outstanding Performance (MOP) honor. Both her rides scored an 82, including a win on the road at TCU to defeat her opponent by two points.
