DRAMA GEEK STUDIO’s ANNIE Jr. and PETER PAN Jr. Set For Stage in July at Sussex County Community College

NEWTON, NJ The sun will be out on the stage at Sussex County Community College Performing Arts Center (SCCC PAC) where Drama Geek Studio presents the family favorite musical, Annie Jr.  Book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse lyrics by Martin Charnin, the adapted tony Award winning musical is directed by Vicky Reed of Sparta.   Show dates  for Annie Jr. are Friday, July 14 at 7 pm, July 15 at 2 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday, July 16 at 2 pm.  

Set in the 1930’s New York City, the beloved little red-headed, orphan Annie captures the hearts of billionaire Daddy Warbucks, and his secretary Grace Farrell, and she befriends a mutt, Sandy.  Meanwhile, the matron at the orphanage, Miss Hannigan, schemes a plan to get Annie back and tries to get some of Daddy Warbuck’s money.   The cast comprised of young thespians who hail from Sussex County will perform classic songs such as Tomorrow, It’s a Hard Knock Life, NYC, and The Sun Will Come Out, among other crowd favorites.  

Soaring onto SCCC PAC’s stage the weekend of July 21-23 is Disney’s Peter Pan, Jr. Based on the play by JM Barrie and the 1953 Disney movie, Peter Pan, Jr. is directed by Josh Reed.  Show times are July 21 at 7 pm, July 22 at 2 pm and 7 pm, and July 23 at 2 pm.

The boy who doesn’t want to grow up visits Wendy Darling, and her brothers Michael and John, and takes them on an adventure to Neverland where they encounter the lost boys and the conniving Captain Hook.  There might not be any “flying” in this Peter Pan Jr. production, but the children cast ranging in age from 7 to 17 from Sussex County will surely take the audience on a fun-filled journey.

Tickets for Drama Geek Studio shows are $15 for kids and seniors and $20 if reserved or pre-purchased, and please note all tickets are $25 without either reservation or pre-purchase.  Visit for more information to order tickets. Upcoming Auditions:  Mark your calendar! Drama Geek Studios will be holding auditions for Those Were The Days Doo-Wop on Monday, August 7 and Tuesday, August 8 at 7 pm at the studio located at 13 Washington Street in Newton, NJ.  Prepare a song that captures the time of the 1950s and early 60s!  Call the studio for an audition time at 973-512-8251. Performances for Those Were the Days Doo-Wop will be September 29, 30 and October 1.

Sparta Police: Car Crash Leads to Warrant Arrest

SPARTA, NJ –  A car going too fast for the snowy road conditions crashed on Route 15.  No one was injured in the one car crash but the driver, Melvin Pineda-Castro of Plainfield, 27, was taken into custody.  On March 13 around 6:30 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Ben Griffin arrived at the scene, according to police.
