NEWTON, NJ - This summer Drama Geek Studios will be performing the Broadway Smash hit, RENT, at Sussex County Community College,1 College Hill Road Newton, N.J. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids. This community theatre group, founded by Josh and Vicky Reed, is a nonprofit group dedicated to bringing quality theatrical experiences to the community, while contributing to philanthropic organizations.
Joshua Reed commented, “We feel that it’s important to give back, so each show we do will donate a portion of its proceeds to a charitable cause. “ The studio and community theatre group also operate under the philosophy that involvement in the theatre promotes individual growth and fosters healthy social relationships and a positive self-esteem.
Cast member and Sparta resident, Taina Brantley, had this to say about being a member of the cast, “RENT and Drama Geek Studios has been an amazing experience that has allowed me to express my passion for the arts and helped me meet people I feel I’ll know for the rest of my life.”
Raelyn Santiago, who plays Mimi, added “RENT has been an amazing experience, the hard work and talent that has gone into this show has been unreal, but the family that we have created is what tops it all.”
Vicky Reed, who plays Joanne, said this, “I haven’t had the opportunity to work with such a talented cast in a very long time. The show is visually stunning and sounds amazing...OK, I’m biased but it’s true. From the members of the live band to the ensemble members, the level of talent in this production is truly incredible. I hope that a lot of people have the opportunity to see it.”
Directed by Joshua Reed and musically directed by Debbie Gianuzzi, the show dates are July 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
