SPARTA, NJ - On Nov 22, at approximately 2:48 a.m. a 20 year-old woman from Easton, Pa. was arrested for DWI after crashing her 1993 Chevy into a stop sign at the end of Layton Lane.  The vehicle rolled and then struck a telephone pole after almost striking a Sparta Police vehicle head on.

Jay-Lin Roman was travelling north on Route 15, crossed the railroad tracks at the end of the highway and crossed into the southbound lane.  Police Officer Arlene Lippencott was travelling south on Route 15 at the same time.  She had to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision with Roman’s vehicle.  Roman swerved back into her lane of travel, lost control of her vehicle and struck the stop sign at the southern end of Layton Lane.  The vehicle became airborne, rolled and struck a telephone pole on Layton Lane.

Roman was able to extricate herself from the vehicle.  She suffered minor injuries and was transported to Morristown Hospital for further treatment.  No Field Sobriety Tests were conducted at the scene

Roman was charged with DWI, Underage DWI, Failure To Keep Right, Careless Driving, Failure To Wear Seatbelt and Use of Cell Phone While Driving.  She has a court date in Sparta Municipal Court pending.
