Join the Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation on Saturday, April 23 as we celebrate Earth Day by picking up trash in our neighborhoods.  Trash can enter our lakes and the Wallkill River as spring rains send it onto our roads and these drain into local bodies of water.  Last year our volunteers removed over 7,000 nonbiodegradable cigarette butts in just a few hours.

We are looking for boy scouts, girl scouts, ecology and environmental clubs, beach associations and other clubs and volunteers to pledge to participate.  Supplies will be provided.  The event will take place until 2pm on April 23.  Collected trash will be pick up in Lake Mohawk by the road department.

Our Earth Day sponsors include NJ Clean Communities, Sunset Vista Community Garden & Learning Center, The Hardware Store, Stop N’ Shop, Simple Clean and Sparta Township.  The Hardware Store in Sparta will be sponsoring a paper shredding event on the same day between 9 and 12.

We hope everyone living in the watershed participates in this community wide event.  Our event leaders will assist you choose an area to cleanup.  Let us know that you want to help by contacting Craig Kalucki at  You can find out more information at the Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation Facebook site or
