SPARTA, NJ – An Elizabeth resident faces charges after falsely identifying himself as an Essex County Constable. On August 21, just after noon, Juan Genao, 26, was pulled over by Sparta Police Officer Tom Snyder for “several equipment violations,” according to police.
While stopped on Tomahawk Trail, Genao showed Snyder a gold badge with a “poorly constructed ID card.” Snyder checked and found Genao’s claim to be false, police report.
Genao was taken into custody, charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, providing false documents, hindering and obstructing. He was also given motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, maintenance of lamps, unclear license plates.
Genoa was released pending a court appearance.
