NEWTON, NJ-- Newton Sgt. Michael Monaco observed the driver of a tan, 2002 Buick LeSabre fail to use his turn signal while making a turn onto Main Street. 

Luis Grisales-Gomez, 22, of Spring Street, Newton, failed to use a turn signal a second time, as he turned off of Main Street onto Nelson Street. Sgt. Monaco pulled over the vehicle on Nelson Street, on Saturday, October 3, at 11:20 p.m. according to Newton police. 

Upon approaching the vehicle, Sgt Monaco detected the odor of raw marijuana.  After searching the vehicle, two small bags of marijuana and a package of rolling papers were found inside.

As a result, the driver, Grisales-Gomez, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance- under 50 grams, Marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to signal.

Grisales-Gomez was released pending his appearance in Newton Municipal Court on Tuesday, October 13.

Officers involved were Sgt. Michael Monaco, Ptl. Steve VanNieuwland, and Ptl. Mahir Kaylani.
