Florham Park couple Paul and Jan Gomperz were honored for their longtime volunteerism at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps
More than 300 enthusiastic community members and alumni enjoyed a pig roast and camp activities at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps.
The Oct. 2 event drew a large crowd despite the damp weather, and guests enjoyed music, food, indoor rock climbing, archery, candle making and boating on the camp’s 660 acres in Sussex County.
“We had a great turnout, the weather held out and the pig roast was delicious,” said Matthew Liftschutlz, the camp’s alumni coordinator and assistant summer camp director. “Many of our neighbors and friends from the area also came to enjoy the day, and everyone had a great time.”
Jan and Paul Gomperz, longtime members of Fairview Lake YMCA board of managers, were honored for their combined 100 years of volunteer service to Fairview Lake.
“Volunteers are the heart of our organization, and Jan and Paul are fine examples of the kind of servant-leaders that make a nonprofit like the YMCA successful,” Fairview Lake YMCA Executive Director Bob Kahle said.
Future community and alumni events are being planned. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be held Dec. 7, and runners can lace up for the second annual Fairview Fun Run – a 5K trail run around the camp’s property — on June 11, 2017.
