SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School softball team had several players named to the All-NJAC teams for the All-American division.
Juniors Erin Scott and Paige Smith were named to the First Team. Senior Anne Monroe and Junior Tatiana Esteva-Ingran were named to Second Team. Junior Isabella DeFlippis earned Honorable Mention.
Smith, a three-sport athlete pitched for the Spartans. She had 176 strikeouts and 45 walks for the 2017 season. This season brought her three-year total to 32 wins, 13 loses, 346 strikeouts, 99 walks. She also helped her team offensively with 25 hits, five runs, six doubles, a triple and five RBIs in 48 trips to the plate.
Scott, also a three-sport athlete, had 28 hits, 14 RBIs, six doubles, one home run, five walks and six stolen bases. She scored 16 time for the Spartans and has career 37 runs.
The 2017 Sparta softball team finished the season with a 14-8 record earning them a ranking of nine in the top ten teams in the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference. Their season went all the way to the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 Tournament.
The All-NJAC teams are developed by the coaches. The coaches are not allowed to nominate their own players.
