On Saturday, January 21, the Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 Sparta Avenue, Sparta, will host a retreat for veterans, their families, and all concerned citizens beginning at 10 a.m. The program is free and open to all. Rev. John Drinkard, the facilitator for the event, is a Vietnam veteran who served a tour of duty as a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot.
In addition to a vast resume that includes being a hospice volunteer who provides end-of-life care for veterans, John works with the Soldier’s Heart organization (www.soldiersheart.net) that is dedicated to healing the “invisible” wounds caused by Post Traumatic Stress. Although this program is rooted in healing veterans, the workshop will be relevant to anyone who is struggling with “invisible” wounds created by stressful situations. The workshop is free and open to all. Lunch will be served. Please bring a memento representative of your experiences.
