SPARTA, NJ - Registration for the Girls on the Run New Jersey North spring season opens on January 31. The organization is actively seeking coaches for their Sparta sites. More coaches will enable them to offer more teams and meet their goal of serving all girls who want to participate.

Volunteers are the backbone of Girls on the Run and bring with them the commitment, motivation and passion to make a difference in the lives of  young girls.  Coaching for Girls on the Run is a rewarding opportunity that requires a commitment of 1.5 hours a week, twice a week, for ten weeks.

"When you are involved with Girls on the Run, as a participant, a coach or a volunteer, you are surrounded by people who bring out the best in you,” said Melissa Fagersten, Program Director.  She continued, "Our coaches truly have a positive impact upon the lives of the girls they coach each season.  We are so grateful for their commitment and enthusiasm.  Without them, our program wouldn't be possible."

The Girls On The Run season will begin on March 7 and conclude with the GOTR 5k on May 14  in Sparta.  Due to the great interest in the program, Girls on the Run has switched to a lottery system this spring for registration.  This will give more girls the opportunity to participate in our program.

The lottery will remain open from Jan 31 through Feb 2. At that time, if more girls are registered than the number of available spots on a team, the registration system will randomly select girls for that team. All additional girls will remain in “lottery status” and be placed on the wait list for full teams.
