The list "10 Things That Make A Home A Good Home" was published by, whose stated mission is "to empower consumers with information and tools to make smart decisions about homes."  #1 on the list was "Location, Location, Location" and #2 was "The School District".

"It’s not uncommon for buyers to start their search based solely on the school district they want to be in.  Parents want their kids to go to the best school, which can drive up prices of homes in those districts.  Even though you might not have children, buying a home in a good school district is always smart.  If the schools are desirable, homes tend to hold their value.  As a homeowner, you should always be aware of how the schools are doing." 6-21-12.

Quality of the public schools ranks higher than #4 Crime, #6 Neighborhood Character and much higher than Taxes, Dues & Fees at #10.

Recently Sparta High School celebrated earning an A-grade for its quality education, based on NJ Dept. of Education data covering 2008-2012.  Analyzed by the Star-Ledger, it included "high school proficiency results for language arts and math, along with SAT scores."  Of the 352 public high schools in NJ, Sparta was one of 100 (28%) who earned an A-grade.

We have a chance Tuesday 11/5 to vote for the 3 Board of Education candidates who were making decisions on the BOE during the time when Sparta earned that A: McKernan, LaBeau and Smith.

Virtually no citizens attend the Board of Education meetings, but if they did they would see significant dysfunction and poor decision making, and that is partly due to a lack of experience among the current board members.  Please bring experience back to our Board of Education, for our children and for our home values.
