SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta Diamonds closed out there 2014 Spring and Summer campaigns and are headed for Fall Ball next weekend. Highlights of the season include the accomplishments of the 10U Blue Diamonds coached by Ray Manning with their winning record of 29 -17. They won the Montville Michelle Fund Tournament in May. The girls finished second in the West Milford Xtreme Heat Challenge in June and the Edison Firecracker Fast Pitch Tournament on July 4 weekend. The team also made it to the semi-finals of the 2014 New Jersey Babe Ruth State Playoffs in June.
With all first year players, the 12U White Diamonds won the Tenafly Safe at Home Tournament in May. The rookie team made the semi-finals in Sparta’s School’s Out Tournament and Mahwah’s Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. The White Diamonds took second place in the Edison Firecracker Fast Pitch Tournament on July 4 weekend. They were also regular season champions of the Northwest New Jersey Spring Softball League and runners-up in the Denville Summer League as well. Their final record for the year was 39 – 16 under the management Joe Jacobs.
The 14U Blue Diamonds won the Northwest New Jersey Spring Softball league with a record of 18-10. Rich Campion was the team’s manager.
The 14U Black Diamonds, the town’s first club softball team, had a solid inaugural season going 12-10. They won the Battle of the Bats in Parsippany and competed in two USSSA events in Princeton and Union. They were managed by Jeff Breuninger. This Black Diamonds team were also runners up in the Denville Summer League.
The 8U Diamonds were managed by Chris Heim. They gained valuable experience by competed in three tournaments. They also won the Denville Summer League.
