SPARTA, NJ - On January 7, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Sparta police were dispatched to Lafayette Road for the report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. The vehicle that caused the accident fled the scene. Sgt. Jeff Mase arrived on scene and met with the driver that was struck by the vehicle that fled.
The driver stated a white Jaguar had struck her vehicle in the rear and then left the scene continuing towards Route 15. The Budd Lake woman and her four year old son were not injured in the accident. P.O.Scott Elig arrived on scene to continue the investigation.
Sgt. Mase checked the area for the white Jaguar and located it as it approached Route 15. He observed the vehicle to have extensive front end damage and it was smoking. He then observed the vehicle jump a curb and strike several street signs. The vehicle finally became disabled on Route 15.
The driver of the vehicle that fled, 40-year-old Dana A. Barry from Hampton, was arrested after failing Field Sobriety Tests. She was transported to Headquarters for processing and breath testing.
Ms. Barry was charged with DWI, Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident, Failure to Keep Right and Operating an Unsafe Motor Vehicle. She also was not injured in the accident. She was released several hours later to a sober adult with a pending court date.
