SPARTA, NJ -Cherie Shefferman's Math STEP students at Helen Morgan School participated in the year-long stock market game, sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation.
The stock market game is an online educational project for students in grades 4-12 that introduces them to the financial markets and teaches strategies for investing and saving. Groups of three to five students for teams to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in stocks, bonds and/or mutual funds. Students work cooperatively to research, build, and manage an investment portfolio, and at the end of the game, winning teams are determined based on total equity or the percentage of return above/below S&P 500 Growth.
Cullen Byrne, Luke Kopco, Lindsay Pugliese and Rachael Young made up the team of Helen Morgan fifth-grade students that came in second place of 88 teams in the region. The foursome also finished 54th out of the 1,643 teams in all of the regions.
This team of students will be honored at an awards ceremony in June.
