HOLMDEL, N.J. - A Go Fund Me site was launched Monday by the Holmdel Lacrosse Team to support the family of their friend, classmate and teammate Jack Dowd, who tragically passed away after collapsing at a lacrosse game at Rutgers University. You can find it and assist the family by clicking here:
On Sunday, September 17th Holmdel High School Junior and Varsity Lacrosse player, 16 year old Jack Dowd collapsed on the field during a scrimmage at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. According to a Rutgers spokesperson, emergency services responded to a 911 call shortly after 6pm, describing a teen player that had collapsed during a youth lacrosse game at their University Park Field.
Rutgers Emergency Medical Teams assisted in first aid services for Dowd, who was then rushed to Robert Wood Johnson hospital. The tragic news traveled throughout Holmdel Sunday evening as the community was in disbelief about the tragic news. Jack Dowd’s father Sean Dowd is an English teacher at Holmdel High School.
Holmdel High School students, teachers and administration devastated by the news had an extremely difficult day to face today. Counseling services and assistance were made available to students. In an email this evening Holmdel High School principal William Loughran says, “Today was a terribly sad day for the entire high school. The Dowd family has touched so many lives in our community and we are all devastated by Jack’s passing.”
In a letter yesterday evening from Holmdel’s Superintendent Robert McGarry confirming the tragedy to the school community, it was mentioned that “The Dowd family has asked that I share this news with you and ask that you respect their privacy at this extremely challenging time.”
TAPintoHolmdel sends their deepest condolences to the Dowd family.
