NEWTON, NJ – Kristopher Dohm, the father of two boys from Landing, was indicted yesterday on charges of kidnapping. Authorities accuse Dohm of leaving the area with his sons last year without the consent of the boys’ mother.
The indictment, handed up to Superior Court Judge Thomas Critchley in Sussex County, charges the 37-year-old Hopatcong Borough man with two counts of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of second-degree interference with custody.
“It is alleged that defendant through numerous acts of deception fled out of state with his 2 minor children with the purpose to permanently deprive their mother of custody,” said the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office in announcing the indictment. Dohm is in the Sussex County jail in lieu of bail. He will be arraigned on the indictment within six weeks, said the prosecutor’s office.
Dohm was arrested in Florida in March. The boys, Parker, 8, and Jason, 7, were seized by police and returned to their mother, Sandra Hughes Dohm.
Authorities said Kristopher Dohm had been traveling with a Budd Lake man facing numerous sex crimes including more than 100 incidences of sexual molestation of minors. The man, Edward Tarras, 39, was also arrested when he and Dohm were found in the Royal Palm Inn in New Port Richey, police said.
