SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Education Foundation’s 11th annual Krogh’s Turkey Trot was as popular as always.  A crowd of more than 2,100 race participants filled White Deer Plaza, joined by volunteers and supporters to cheer them on. Family, friends and fans lined the route along East Shore Trail as well.

Sparta High School junior Ryden Mederos began the race singing the national anthem with the crowd in the plaza.  Sparta School District Superintendent Dr. Michael Rossi was not only the official starter of the race, he also participated in the 5K.

The early 8:15 a.m. one-mile Fun Run started off the morning.  The main event 5k kicked off at 8:45a.m.  Beginning and ending in front of Krogh’s the first place medal went to Spartan Chris Dugan with a time of 16:46.  Second and third place runners were Liam McHale of Harrisonville at 16:53 and Blake Digiaimo of Newton at 17:19 according to the Sparta Education Foundation’s Gwen Donovan.

The top three women were Nicole Attas of Hopatcong with at time of 18:26, Corinne Fitzgerald of New York City at 19:38 and Stephanie Peterson of Newton finishing at 19:52 Donovan said.

The event was once again directed by Sabrina Lucas and co-chaired by Kylen Anderson and Dorothy LaBeau. 

The Sparta Education Foundation also hosted a food drive, collecting non-perishibles for the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry.

Sparta Police: No Seatbelt Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

SPARTA, NJ –A Newark man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop on Route 15 north.  On July 18 around 11:15 a.m. Cpl. Marc Rubino stopped a white Acura because the driver Ishmel Graham was not wearing his seatbelt according to police.

SPARTA, NJ -  A man from Hackettstown with an active warrant faces additional charges when officers stopped him because the registered owner of the car had a suspended license.  On July 2 around 2 a.m. Police Officer Ericks Finley stopped a car registered to Shanicqui Nelson on Route 15 police said.

SPARTA, NJ – A man from Plainfield was stopped for racing on Route 15, going 93 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.  Sparta Police Officer Erick Finley was able to stop one of  two cars racing on July 6 around 11:45 p.m. police said.

 I have spent considerable time trying to find somewhere on Lake Hopatcong to bring my dog for a swim.
What I have found is ridiculous - this lake has approximately 28 miles of shoreline and I found NO PLACE am allowed to bring him.  Am hoping you can make the public aware and maybe someone will know more than me and inform where dogs are allowed?
