My name is Kurt Morris and I am running for Sparta Board of Education.  I am 42 years old and have been a resident of Sparta for 30 years. I have two daughters, Elizabeth 10 and Nicole 5.  I have been an active member of the community, volunteering my time in the schools, as well as coaching my daughter’s basketball teams.

Following my graduation from Sparta High School, I attended The County College of Morris and William Paterson University.  I am currently employed by the Sparta Twp Police Department and have been in law enforcement for the past 19 years. I was also FOP Lodge 26 Union President for four years.

The Sparta School District has always been a part of my life and they will continue to be a part of my life for the next 13 years as my daughters attend Sparta Public Schools.

Academics are a priority and our resources must be directed appropriately.  We must continue to focus on the educational needs of all the students.  We need to provide all students with equal opportunity to succeed and be competitive within the Sparta School District as well as within the state.

School Security is always a topic of concern in today’s world for our children.  I want to see continued improvement to an already great security plan that is in place to ensure the safety of all students, teachers and administrators in our district.

Athletics in Sparta is more than a field, logo or sign to create an image.  It’s about history and tradition of being a Spartan and striving for excellence.  We need to ensure that ALL athletic fields and facilities are kept up to date to prevent injuries, but also, so the student athletes can continue to succeed.  This all needs to be done while being financially responsible and keeping in mind the best interests of the community, the student and the school district.

Unity and Transparency are also extremely important to me.  Given the role of the BOE, it is crucial that the board works as one.  All information should be shared and discussed together, as well as any decision making that will need to take place.  Most importantly, the community also needs to be informed and information shared with them appropriately.

I want the Sparta School District to continue to strive and improve all while operating under a reasonable budget.  With The Board of Education working together with the community as one, for the students and their own children, Sparta schools can only get better going forward.

Remember on November 5, 2019 please come out and vote and vote for Bragg, Morris, Grano for Sparta Board of Education. "Academics, Transparency, Community"
