The Sparta Township Public Schools has taken immediate steps to audit all district curricula to ensure compliance with the Amistad and Holocaust Commissions. Additionally, the ELA department will review all course material at all levels. Integrating race relations, giving historical perspective, teaching about social injustices and other related issues will be emphasized in our instruction. We commit to affecting lasting change for all students.

Parent forums have been conducted to discuss the concerns of our community and we are developing many other avenues which we can utilize to educate our students and amplify the voice of our students who feel oppressed and marginalized. We commit to open dialogue.

In addition, two new groups, the Sparta Culture and Climate Committee and the Sparta Diversity Council, have been formed in the last year to address the lack of acceptance and inclusion in our community. We commit to anti-bias, anti-racism, and cultural inclusion education within our schools.

Please know that the Sparta Township Public Schools and the Sparta Township Board of Education does not condone actions or speech that negatively impacts the freedoms and rights of any human being. We commit to continuing our work with local organizations and advocacy groups to strengthen our community.

We invite you to continue to engage in open lines of communication with us to have honest conversations that work to improve our district, our community and our society. We commit to systemic change.
