SPARTA, NJ – Sparta’s youngest students celebrated Love of Reading with a week of activities.  Mohawk Avenue School and Alpine Elementary School had special days and special guests.

They wore shirts with words for their classmates to read on one day and shirts with locations they have visited in honor of the Dr. Seuss book, “Oh the Places You Will Go.”

The schools had visiting guest readers and a local author came to speak to the students and sign copies of his book.  Classroom doors were decorated like book covers. The schools also had Drop Everything and Read time when the students lined the hallways reading.

The schools' PTO’s held book fairs for students and their families to build their home libraries.  Mohawk Avenue School’s theme was camping.  They had a large tent set up in the auditorium and on the night the book fair was open late, the PTO invited area summer camps to be on hand to provide information about their programs.

The Cat in the Hat visited the students at Alpine school, talked about reading and gave out I Love to Read bracelets.
