SPARTA, NJ – Once again, the Sparta Elks Lodge is presenting the community with an extreme challenge, in the name of charity. The Sparta Elks Army of Hope Committee will be holding its annual Military Truck Pull competition where teams of 10 will compete in various categories with the proceeds going to Wounded Warriors on New Jersey and the families of the fallen heroes.
The event will take place at Station Park on Sunday, Sept. 20 at noon and will include a barbecue picnic. The trucks that will be pulled will be provided by Military Transport Association Inc. This organization is dedicated to the education and preservation of historic and present day military vehicles and equipment.
The Army of Hope Committee was formed in 2003 to assists families who have a mother or father on active duty with the military reserve or National Guard. The members of the committee are professional people and tradesmen including carpenters, electricians, mechanics, plumbers, attorneys, doctors, accountant and teachers, according to the organization. These volunteers provide services and make minor repairs to the homes of the service men and women and their families, until they return home from active duty.
All community organizations are invited to participate; police, fire, EMS, restaurants, school groups and more. Registration fees are $20 per person for adults and $10 for children. For those who wish to enjoy the picnic without competing the cost is $15 for adults and $5 for children.
Past truck pulls have raised approximately $5000 for the organization.
