SPARTA, NJ - Rita’s Ice in Sparta hosted the Mohawk Avenue School’s Celebrity Scoop Night this past Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Third grade students and their families as well as local citizens were served by the teachers of Mohawk Avenue School.
Third grade teacher, Joe Parlapiano, said, “It was a little hectic. I thought it was great having all the kids coming out supporting the teachers and supporting the local business.”
Aside from the MAS staff, Helen Morgan School principal, Doug Layman, also made an appearance. “I definitely think it’s successful in bringing out the school community,” said Layman. "Who doesn’t love a Rita’s?” he joked while enjoying an Italian ice with his daughter, Elliott.
The third grade teachers were accompanied by the Rita’s staff, serving several flavors of Italian ice, as well as soft serve ice cream and custards. “We’re just so excited to be able to do this for the kids in Sparta,” Gina Verhalen, an MAS teacher, chuckled, “It’s a very sticky job.”
The Helen Morgan School teachers will be scooping ice cream for their students at the HMS Celebrity Scoop Night at Rita’s this following Wednesday, May 27 from 5 to 8 p.m.
