SPARTA, NJ — The parking lot at Sparta Township municipal building has several locations set up to server the community. Residents now have two locations to hand deliver tax and utility payments.
Both are similar to a mailbox. One box is located just outside the entrance to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters. This has been in place for a few years.
Township Manager Bill Close announced the second location earlier in the summer. The second location is a drive up depository, similar to the mailbox in the parking lot at the Sparta Post Office.
Close explained, some residents had difficulty negotiating the walkway to the existing drop box. It is also more convenient in inclement weather.
At the township council meeting on September 11, Close announce the project had been completed. He said people had already made use of the box. The project had been plagued with weather related delays.
In the corner of the parking lot, behind the gas pumps, there is a Safe Exchange Zone; a place to transfer items bought and sold online. The location is marked with a sign, is well lit and under video surveillance, monitored by the Sparta dispatch center across the parking lot.
Just inside the door to the police department is a drop box for unused medication as well.
