Newton Holds 14th Annual Sussex County St. Patrick’s Day Parade

NEWTON, NJ—Despite the mounds of snow covering Newton, residents from all over the county gathered on Spring Street to show off their Irish spirit.

With the exception of a few flurries in the morning, the 14th annual Sussex County St. Patrick’s Day Parade went off without a hitch.

Over 700 people were walking or driving in the parade, along with eight floats and over 100 vehicles including fire trucks, first response vehicles, as well as others used to pull the floats.

The 2017 Grand Marshall of the parade was Dr. Paul Crowley, who is affectionately known as “Doc Crowley”. Crowley is the former Mayor of Franklin. His wife Carol and have resided in Franklin for the past 38 year.

Crowley was accompanied by his wife and their children, Paul B, Meg, Sharon and Patrick, along with his son-in-law Nick and his grandchildren Maire, Caolan, and Aine.

Sparta Police: Car Crash Leads to Warrant Arrest

SPARTA, NJ –  A car going too fast for the snowy road conditions crashed on Route 15.  No one was injured in the one car crash but the driver, Melvin Pineda-Castro of Plainfield, 27, was taken into custody.  On March 13 around 6:30 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Ben Griffin arrived at the scene, according to police.
