NEWTON, NJ— The Newton Police Department responded to a report of a car accident at the intersection of North Park Drive and the access road to the Sussex County Mall on Thursday, April 6 around 12:50 p.m.
The report said one of the vehicles involved in the accident had overturned.
The investigation by Newton police found that Sandra Johnson, 74, of Sparta, was behind the wheel of a 2009 Lexus SUV when she ran through the stop sign as she was exiting the Kohl’s and Home Depot access road, according to police.
Johnson crashed into a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, being driven by Gabrielle Mary Taylor, 19, of Milford, P.A. Johnson’s vehicle rolled over in the crash, police report.
According to police, Johnson complained of neck and back pain and was transported to the Newton Medical Center by Newton First Aid Squad. The Newton Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by D&E Service.
Johnson was issued a summons for careless driving and North Park Drive was temporarily closed to traffic for approximately an hour due to the accident.
