SPARTA, NJ – A Newton driver is facing drug charges after catching the attention of Sparta police by running through a stop sign. On November 21, around 11 p.m. Sparta Cpl. Marc Rubino saw a tan Chrysler turn right onto Andover Road without stopping at the corner, police report.
After stopping and speaking with Courtney Force, 23, the officer smelled marijuana in the car. Sparta Sgt. Carbery and Police Officer Snyder arrived to assist as the driver, a passenger and the car was searched, police report.
The officers found several empty zip lock bags and two full zip lock bags containing marijuana, two marijuana ‘gummies’ four packs of rolling papers and a number of raw marijuana stems, according to police.
Force claimed ownership of all of the items, saying the passenger did not know the drugs and paraphernalia were in her car, police say.
Force was taken into custody and brought to Sparta police department headquarters for processing. Force was charged with failure to observe a stop sign, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released with a court date.
