Newton's Spring Street to Be Transformed into Diagon Alley

NEWTON, NJ –The Holiday magic will continue all day on Spring Street on November 25.  Immediately following the holiday parade, the Spring Circle Merchants will be transforming the street into Diagon Alley. 

Harry Potter fans young and old will enjoy shopping in Ollivanders (Charcoal Moons), Weasleys Wizards Wheezes and more.  They will enjoy eating at the Leaky Cauldron (The Barrel House) and the Great Hall (Between the Bread).

The wizarding world experience will include

  • Quidditch Lessons,
  • Horcrux Hunt,
  • Potion Making,
  • giveaways,
  • owls delivering discounts and
  • a sorting hat to find out which house you belong in. 

Shuttle busses will bring patrons from the parking lots to Diagon Alley.  Parking will be available in the lots at Newton High School, Merriam Avenue School, Sussex County Community College, Newton Park and Ride.

The annual holiday parade is scheduled to step off at 10 a.m. traveling down Spring Street from the corner of Diller Avenue and Halsted Street. They participants will process down Moran Street, ending in Memory Park.  The event is sponsored by the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce.  This year's theme is Magical Christmas.

Sparta Police: Vernon Man Hits a Curb, Gets DWI

SPARTA, NJ – A Vernon man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after he hit a curb and disabled his Jeep.  On November 30 around 11;20 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Ericks Finley found the Robert Houdershieldt, 44, sitting in his Grand Cherokee on the Route 15 southbound ramp, police say.

Sparta Police: Wanted Orange Man Picked Up After Driving Erratically

SPARTA, NJ – An Orange resident is in custody on outstanding warrants and other charges after getting stopped by Sparta police on Woodport Road.  On November 21 around 1:40 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Snyder stopped an Audi driven by Damani Weekes, police say.

It was strange to get a phone message at a local movie theater that my house was on fire in Lake Stockholm on Friday. It was thirty years ago that I had a house fire in the same community, but tonight I was at the AMC movie in Rockaway getting a call about my house again being on fire.
