SPARTA, NJ - It is another busy weekend in Sparta, with several family friendly activities.

On Thursday, the Sparta Elks continue Push Cart Hot Dogs night on the boardwalk, outside the Elks Lodge. From 7 until 9 p.m. hot dogs will be available for $2 with chips or $3 for the special of the week and chips. This week's special is the Baked Bean Dog.   

On Friday evening, the VFW will hold their weekly summer barbecue. Dinners of chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and sides can be eaten at the newly refurbished VFW or taken home.

The Sparta Summer Concert Series features Billy Hector on Friday night on the stage at Dykstra Park behind the library. The free concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.  A $50 gift certificate to St. Moritz Bar and Grill will be given away at the show. Anyone donating to SCAC will receive entry into the drawing, good for that night only. The concert will be moved into the auditorium at Mohawk Avenue School in the event of rain. 

The Sparta Recreation Department will show the third of four free outdoor family movie Zootopia on the screen at Dykstra Park on Saturday night. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with free popcorn, door prizes, DJ music, face painting and more. Refreshments will be available to purchase. The movie will begin at dusk, approximately 8 p.m. The rain date is Aug. 27.

Sparta Police: Drug Charges for Sparta Woman After Traffic Stop

SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta woman is facing drug charges after a traffic stop on Route 15.  On April 21 around 11:10 a.m. Sparta Cpl. Joe Antonello stopped Marina Scheer, 20, because the license plate on her green Toyota was bent making it impossible to read, according to police.

Plane Crashes into Lake Aeroflex in Sussex County Park

NEWTON, NJ—A one-manned plane crashed into Lake Aeroflex in Kittatinny Valley State Park around 11:30 this morning.
