Family Volunteer Day was started 24-years-ago by Points of Light, an affiliate partner of Pass It Along, as a way to kick-off the holiday season. Family Volunteer Week is a part of National Family Week, sponsored by the Alliance for Children and Families and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Family Volunteer Day is made possible by several sponsors, including First Hope Bank, Newton Medical Center, Atlantic Health Systems, The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey, and ThorLabs. Other sponsors of the event include Sutherland Packaging, Stop and Shop of Sparta and the Sparta Evangelical Free Church.
“Family Volunteer Day provides families, organizations and individuals the opportunity to volunteer together while making a difference within their community. Whether it is helping out a local food pantry, dog shelter, nursing home or adopting a local family in need of a Thanksgiving meal, there are so many ways to get involved on this day,” says Kathy Rathbone, Director of Programs for Pass It Along, “It’s a day that gives you that chance to make a difference in someone's life.”
